Kigelia Africana is a tree found in low-lying altitudes in Southern Africa. It grows well in riverine areas and produces an amazing pod in the shape of a sausage, sometimes as heavy as 10kg.The fruit of the Kigelia Africana tree has long been used traditionally for dry skin conditions. In some regions the tree is regarded as sacred and the fruits are traded as good luck charms, they are so highly prized.
Alongside the intrinsic soothing and ultra-moisturising capabilities of the fruit, the chemical constituency of Kigelia (in particular the naphthoquinones and iridoids) give it anti-microbial, anti-fungal and anti-viral properties.
